Assistant Provost for Academic Services
Dear Colleagues,
We are pleased to announce the appointment of Shawna Cooper-Gibson, Ed.D., as Assistant Provost for Academic Student Services. Dr. Cooper-Gibson joins us from the School of Social Service Administration at the University of Chicago where she is currently Dean of Students. Dr. Cooper-Gibson returns to Loyola University Chicago where she had worked for eight years, most recently as the Assistant Dean of the School of Communication.
Dr. Cooper-Gibson’s commitment to student success as well as her experience with Loyola University Chicago, make her a uniquely qualified candidate to lead the division of student academic services. She holds a doctoral degree of education from Boston University and a masters of education from National-Louis University.
In her new role as Assistant Provost, Dr. Cooper-Gibson will oversee academic support services located in the Sullivan Center which include First and Second Year Advising, the Center for Career Development, the Center for Tutoring and other support services for specific groups of undergraduates. She will also serve as Co-Chair of the Council for Student Success with the Vice President of Student Development and assist the university in reaching its retention and student success goals as outlined in Plan 2020.
