Gender-Based Violence

Gender-based violence (dating violence/domestic violence, sexual assault, sexual harassment/exploitation, and stalking) is not only against the law, but against Loyola University Chicago's Community Standards.

Gender-based violence is a public health issue, as it can affect physical and mental health of survivors. It can also negatively impact and disrupt entire populations, such as college campuses. For more information, please see CDC- Sexual Violence Prevention.

There are resources, reporting options, and support services here on campus to help any students who are directly or indirectly affected by gender-based violence.

To connect with a confidential advocate at Loyola, call The Line at 773-494-3810. The Line is open Monday-Friday during business hours and 24 hours on the weekend when classes are in session. During most breaks (summer, spring, etc.), advocacy services are available Monday-Friday during business hours. The Line is typically closed on university holidays. If The Line is closed and you would like to speak to someone right away, please call the Chicago Rape Crisis Hotline at 888-293-2080.

The Violence Prevention and Advocacy Specialist, Sam Hammett, is the primary contact for advocacy and gender-based violence prevention programming at Loyola. You can reach her directly to schedule an advocacy appointment or request a training at shammett@luc.edu

The Wellness Center has a sponsored student organization that focuses on gender-based violence awareness, prevention, and education called CHANGE. Please visit their website for more information.
