Tell-A-Vision
Tell-A-Vision is a special section that bridges the theoretical with the practical and popular. Video clips from a range of popular media outlets are collected from a specific source, sometimes this is a television show, music video, video game, movie, documentary, and so on. The purpose of Tell-A-Vision is to demonstrate how we reproduce, reflect, and recreate/reinforce dominant cultural concepts through media. For example, gender, race, and class relations are in constant flow through popular media. As noted feminist bell hooks finds, popular media may either reproduce current, harmful social norms, or offer different realities on screen. These varying approaches to what is real may support efforts of social justice and feminism.
If you have video clips in mind you would like to share, we welcome your contributions. Choose 1 to 4 clips, no longer than ten minutes total. We prefer you send us the video clips, but if you are only able to let us know the sources and time frames, we are capable of capturing the clips as well. Please, in your contribution, offer a 100-200 word overview of what is happening in the clips, maybe paired with a question.
