NEW STUDENT CONVOCATION

Mandatory for new students.

The New Student Convocation is an annual tradition when all entering students are inducted into their graduating class, and their academic careers officially begin at Loyola University Chicago. Students are welcomed to the University community by the President, Provost, Vice President of Student Development, faculty, and staff.

Dining Halls Open Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner will be served in both Lake Shore Dining and Simpson Dining. Visit LUC.edu/dining for hours of operations.
First Year Survey Information Commons You will receive an e-mail inviting you to participate. This online questionnaire takes roughly a half hour to complete and can be done either at your own leisure or on the hour in the Information Commons. To learn more, visit LUC.edu/firstyearsurvey.
Breakfast for 2012 Alumni of Jesuit High Schools 9:30 a.m. – 11 a.m. McCormick Lounge Members of the Jesuit Community and the staff of Campus Ministry will host a scrumptious breakfast reception for the 100+ incoming Loyola students who have graduated from a Jesuit high school. These Loyola students are invited to network and to share their Jesuit educational heritage with their peers.
University Libraries Scramble 10 a.m. - Noon Cudahy Library and Information Commons Learn (almost) everything there is to know about the University Libraries and win prizes! Discover library resources, services, and much more while exploring Cudahy Library and the Information Commons. One lucky winner will walk away with the grand prize of a Kindle Fire!
First-Year Residence Hall Community Meeting 1:30 p.m. Individuals’ Residence Halls All students who live on-campus are required to meet with their residence hall staff for a mandatory community meeting. Look for signs or speak with a staff member from your building for your specific meeting location.
First-Year Commuter Student Session 1:30 p.m. Crown Center Auditorium Get connected to Loyola! Off-Campus Student Life will provide you with an opportunity to meet and ask questions of dedicated staff, gain insight into on and off campus resources, and the chance to ask a panelist of upper-class commuter & transfer students questions. This information session will provide you with resources for becoming a successful student. After the meeting we’ll join the Class of 2016 for the Convocation Walk!
Convocation Walk 3 p.m. East Quad; (rain or shine) MANDATORY FOR NEW STUDENTS Join all new students in Loyola’s annual Convocation Walk, the procession led by your Student Body President, Julia Poirier. The route will take you through Cudahy’s ceremonial South Door and end at the New Student Convocation.

Conversations on Your Journey 5 p.m. Various Classrooms MANDATORY FOR NEW STUDENTS Engage in small group discussions on the One Book, One University text, Enrique's Journey, facilitated by Loyola's faculty members. In addition to the book discussion, take advantage of your time with facilitators to inquire about academic life. Sponsored by Academic Affairs. (Dinner will be provided.)
Halas House Party 7 p.m. – 10 p.m. Halas Recreation Center The Campus Recreation Department welcomes you to the "Halas House Party!" Come see all that the Halas Recreation Center has to offer. The Aquatics area we will host a "Battleship" Competition where participants in canoes try to sink each other’s battleship! Bring your swim suits if you want to play! Come and preview many of our fitness classes, head upstairs to the basketball courts for a “bags” and dance contest with prizes going to the winners.
Sex Signals 8 p.m. – 9:30 p.m. Centennial Forum Student Union, Mullady Theater Blending a unique combination of improvisational comedy, education, and audience participation, Sex Signals provides a provocative look at the issues of dating and sex on college campuses. The show uses humor throughout to laugh about the differences between men and women and engage audiences in candid discussions about how we treat one another. Also, learn more information about the Loyola’s Wellness Center and services. The residence hall floor with the highest percentage of attendees will receive a party courtesy of the Wellness Center and Student Activities & Greek Affairs!

Trip to Target 11 p.m. – 1 a.m. Meet at the Bus Depot just outside of the Parking Structure Take a trip to Target for anything you need or may have forgotten at home. Target has extended its hours exclusively for Loyola students! The final bus will depart from Target at midnight to return students back to campus. PLEASE PURCHASE ONLY WHAT YOU CAN CARRY!
