For international students who have completed their secondary education, and have started university level courses, the process is a little different. Find out how.

Help us get to know you
We know (and you know) that your talents can not summed up in a single number, so we take a holistic approach to reviewing your application.
REQUIRED:
- Complete either Loyola University Chicago's free online application or apply through Common App
- Send in all official high school and secondary transcripts from each institution you have attended. If you are enrolled in your final year of high school, please send records for the previous three years of school completed. A transcript is considered official if it is sent directly to Loyola from an official at your school. For international transcripts, high school officials may send official documents via email to internationaladmission@luc.edu.
- Loyola has a test optional admission policy. Students may still choose to submit SAT and/or ACT scores as part of their application for admission. Students who do not submit scores will not be penalized, and may still qualify for merit scholarships. Loyola does superscore results, meaning the admission office is reviewing the highest subscore from each section of the exams. If a student does choose to submit scores, we recommend sharing all test results.
- You may also be required to submit English proficiency scores. You may send TOEFL, IELTS, Pearson Test of English, Duolingo English Test scores for proficiency. A minimum score of 79 is required for the TOEFL, 6.5 for IELTS, or a 53 on the PTE, 110 for Duolingo. Superscoring does not apply to these exams.
- Ask for a letter of recommendation from a teacher or counselor or have them use our online form.
Recommended:
- 500-word personal statement
- Send a resume of your achievements and extracurricular activities at school or in your community
You may want to also check out our Rome Start program where you can spend your first year at our Rome Center and then transition to Chicago your second year.
If you will be applying for a student visa, you will receive additional instructions and assistance following your admission decision. Students will be invited to the ISSS Portal through their LUC email address and will need to complete an I-20 Request. Be prepared to upload a copy of the ID page from your passport, supporting documents showing funds available for the total cost of the year of study, and an Affidavit of Support (if applicable). These items are not required to receive your admission decision.
Incoming students may be required to take placement exams in math, English, and writing. The results are used to place students in the courses appropriate to their level of preparation. In some cases this may include a non-credit ESL class or introductory math class.
Visas and More
If you have questions about getting a visa or changing your visa status, Loyola's International Students and Scholars (ISS) group is available to assist you. ISS helps international students transition to Loyola, Chicago, and the United States. ISS also helps students find off-campus housing and coordinates an orientation for new international students. The orientation session covers information on immigration rules and visa status, as well as general information about Loyola.
For more information, please visit the ISS website.
