Full Disk Encryption
Full disk encryption is a reliable method for securing the contents of a physical media by using a software program to encrypt the hard drive in its entireity.
Devices and Media Requiring Encryption:
Encryption is required for all laptops, workstations, and portable drives that may be used to store or access Loyola University Chicago's Protected data. Encryption is recommended for all laptops, workstations, and portable drives that may be used to store or access Loyola University Chicago's Sensitive data. ITS will provide, install, configure, and support encryption where it is needed. Departments who have a laptop, workstation, or portable drive that needs to be encrypted should contact the ITS Information Security team at DataSecurity@luc.edu .
ITS will install software that is capable of encrypting the entire hard drive on all identified Loyola University Chicago computers and electronic devices subject to this Policy. Users who require encryption software should contact ITS to arrange installation of encryption software.
Here are two encryption software which loyola UISO recommends. Before starting the encryption process on any Loyola University Chicago's Protected data or system, you are requested to contact DataSecurity@luc.edu as this process can cause loss of data, if not done properly.
