Alert: Spear Phishing Attack

False e-mails appearing from "Novell WebAccess " have been sent to a large number of Loyola staff, faculty, and students. These e-mails are asking the user to send their password, via e-mail, in order to ensure that there is no service interruption to their access.

These e-mails are NOT originating from Loyola University Chicago. Neither ITS, nor any other Loyola department, will ever ask for your password. If you receive this e-mail, please delete it immediately and do not respond.

ITS is taking steps to block communication with this sender (phisher). If you have responded to this e-mail with your username or password, please immediately change your password and contact the University Information Security Office (UISO) by sending an e-mail to datasecurity@luc.edu.

These attacks are part of a larger social engineering "attack" called phishing. Phishing attacks attempt to exploit your trust and convince you to give up your personal information. You should always be wary of divulging personal information. For more information on phishing, please visit LUC.edu/uiso/phishing.shtml.

If you have any questions, please contact the UISO at datasecurity@luc.edu or 773.508.7373.
