Communities Migration

This notice was sent on January 9th, 2013

Communities are now called Projects in Sakai

Leaders of Blackboard Organizations/Communities

You are receiving this notice because you are listed as one of the “leaders” of a Blackboard organization/community.

As has been announced, we will be switching from Blackboard to Sakai by the summer 2013 term and have been working with faculty to copy their courses into the new system. We are now turning our efforts to helping Blackboard organization/community leaders move organizations/communities to Sakai.

Please be assured that you will be able to continue to access your organization/community in Blackboard through May 31, 2013; after this date, Blackboard will no longer be available. You can use Sakai to set up a comparable entity to a Blackboard organization/community. This Sakai worksite is called a “project”. You can begin using Sakai to create Sakai projects following the steps outlined in the three-part, 15-minute introduction to Sakai linked from your login portal to Sakai [https://sakai.luc.edu]

As with a Blackboard organization/community, you have the option to add participants to the Sakai project and to assign a role of either “access” (view content) or “manage” (add content) to each participant in the Sakai project.

We will be providing more information on how to convert organizations/communities from Blackboard to Sakai. In the meantime, please check the list of Bb organizations/communities you lead in the My Organizations Plus module and decide:

  • Which Bb organizations/communities you do not need any more
  • Which Bb organizations/communities you need to use through May 31, 2013
  • Which Bb organizations/communities you want to convert from Blackboard to Sakai during the next few months
  • If there are multiple leaders of the Blackboard organization/community, who should be listed as the primary contact for this group

On Monday, January 21, 2013 you will receive an email with additional information and a link to an online form you can use to indicate what to do with each Bb organization/community for which you are a “leader”.

Please contact us at sakai@luc.edu with any questions or refer to http://www.luc.edu/sakai. Thank you for your attention to this matter.
