Student Handbook - Community Standards
Students at the John Felice Rome Center are required to read and familiarize themselves with its Community Standards, which are posted on its Website and provided in handbook form upon arrival at the Rome Center campus. All of its policies and procedures apply to all of its students, regardless of their country of origin, and they are to be followed from the moment a student arrives until his or her final departure.
The Rome Center requires that its students abide by a set of ethical standards based on values of respect for self, peers, faculty, staff, and members of the outside community. Thus, Rome Center students are expected to exercise sensible behavior both on and off campus, recognizing that they represent Loyola University Chicago and demonstrating good citizenship befitting this U.S.-based university. Those who fail to conduct themselves properly, according to the guidelines established by the Community Standards, are subject to the sanctions listed.
In addition to actions taken at the Rome Center, Loyola University Chicago reserves the right to adjudicate any case in which a student is alleged to have violated these Community Standards. The University and/or the Rome Center may proceed with a hearing despite pending civil or criminal proceedings. In some circumstances, a case may be referred for criminal investigation. Misconduct by any student enrolled at the Rome Center campus, no matter what their home country or university, may be referred to the Dean of Students at Loyola University Chicago's Lakeside campuses. The Rome Center's Associate Dean of Students also may send a letter detailing any student's misconduct to their home institution.
Note: The term Associate Dean of Students is used throughout these Community Standards. It should be understood that the roles and responsibilities relegated to the Associate Dean of Students in this handbook may be delegated to other members of the Rome Center staff at the discretion of the Director. Any question of interpretation or application of the Community Standards shall be referred to the Director or his or her designee for final determination. Further, the Director of the Rome Center has the power to dismiss any student who engages in behavior that violates the rules and regulations of the Rome Center.
Neither Loyola University Chicago nor the Rome Center can universally ensure students' safety while living at the Rome Center or traveling off campus. As indicated on the U.S. Department of State's website (www.travel.state.gov) the U.S. Government remains deeply concerned about the security of all U.S. citizens overseas. U.S. citizens are advised to maintain a high level of vigilance, to remain alert, and to take appropriate steps to increase their security awareness. Rome Center students should display a high degree of socially responsible behavior at all times.
