| Description: | |
| The Men in the City Challenge is for incoming first year students identifying as male, who are interested in addressing the challenge of being a man in today's culture. Through community service, this experience will establish a community and new friendships before classes begin in the Fall. The Men in the City Challenge incorporates reflection as a means for community-building, as well as education around “men’s issues” on campus and in the broader community. Topics to be explored include but are not limited to: the role of men on campus at Loyola, what Jesuits are and how they support the Loyola community, goal-setting in preparation for coming to college, bystander intervention skills and sexual misconduct awareness, and support services available to men on campus. The retreat engages men spiritually, intellectually, physically, and emotionally to provide a supportive experience that will bolster confidence and inspire leadership on campus. A day of service with a local community organization will be a key component of this experience. Participants will not only serve, but have the chance to bond and learn about the people they are serving. Students will also have a chance to meet with the Jesuit community on campus to discuss their service. This retreat will enable students to better understand the community which they are joining and the larger community of Chicago. This is a great opportunity for male students who are seeking to develop lasting friendships through service and action. | ![]() |
