Mertz Hall

MertzMertz Hall is a 19-story traditional residence hall that accommodates 654 men and women in double- and single-rooms on single-gender floors. Mertz rooms have large windows with magnificent views of the city of Lake Michigan.  This residence hall's unique location above the Centennial Forum Student Union and the Lake Shore Dining Room positions it in the middle of most major campus events.

Constructed in 1969, Mertz is named in honor of Reverend James J. Mertz, S.J. Father Mertz joined the Loyola faculty in 1922, teaching ancient Greek and Roman civilization. He also played a large role in building Madonna della Strada Chapel. Mertz Hall/Centennial Forum Student Union now house a residence hall, student activities, offices and the Kathleen Mullady Theatre.
