How to Apply for Housing Tutorial
We use a cohort model for our residences halls. This means that we offer three distinct and unique experiences to students living on-campus. First-year students live in traditional-style communities, second-year students live in specially selected communities with area desks, and junior and senior students live more independently in apartment-style communities.

Visit this page to learn more about the Residential Programming and Support Model and which halls are used for first-year, second-year, and junior senior housing.
All First and Second-year students are required to live on campus per the Residency Requirement.
If you wish to request an exemption from the Residency Requirement, you will need to submit a Housing Exemption Form no later than noon on February 7, 2024 to receive a decision prior to February 14.
All housing applicants are required to submit a $500 Prepayment (or apply for a Prepayment waiver) at the same time as they submit their application. Prepayments will be due no later than February 14th at 12pm (noon); details on how to submit are outlined below in the "Application and Prepayment" FAQ section.
Prepayment Waiver Requests are due on February 7 at 12pm (noon), so that our office can make a decision prior to the February 14 Housing Application due date.
- Continuing students not enrolled as full-time students on or before July 1, 2023 for fall semester, or December 31, 2023 for spring semester may have their Student Housing Agreement canceled and their space reassigned.
- Except as otherwise provided by University policy, once the Student has checked in to his or her room, the Student is liable for the applicable room rate for the remainder of the academic year following check in, regardless of whether the Student remains in the residence halls for that period of time.
- In the event the Student is removed from the residence halls for student conduct and/or disciplinary reasons, the Student will remain fully responsible for all room and board charges and fees for the remainder of the academic year following removal.
>If you selected a room it will be reassigned to another student

Do you need 5 students to select a quint (or 4 students to select a quad)?
Yes, in order to select a quad or quint, you will need to be able to fill the space.
Baumhart quads are an exception to this as groups of less than 4 will be able to select a quad in Baumhart Hall on the Water Tower Campus.
As a reminder, both quads and quints on the Lake Shore Campus are very limited. Students hoping to be able to select either room type should have a conversation amongst their Roommate Group to determine how they will split should a quad or quint not be available.
If you're part of a Roommate Group, who should be selecting the space?
The student with the lowest lottery number (closest to 1) should be the one selecting on behalf of the group.
I submitted my housing application and/or pre-payment after the deadline, am I eligible for Room Selection?
Students who submitted their housing application and/or pre-payment late are not eligible for Room Selection and will not be able to be "pulled into" a room by a friend.
Students who didn't meet the communicated deadline will be assigned by the Department of Residence Life on a rolling basis after Room Selection concludes.
