We use a cohort model for our residences halls. This means that we offer three distinct and unique experiences to students living on-campus. First-year students live in traditional-style communities, second-year students live in specially selected communities with area desks, and junior and senior students live more independently in apartment-style communities.

Review the Residential Programming and Support Model Here

Visit this page to learn more about the Residential Programming and Support Model and which halls are used for first-year, second-year, and junior senior housing.

All First and Second-year students are required to live on campus per the Residency Requirement

If you wish to request an exemption from the Residency Requirement, you will need to submit a Housing Exemption Form no later than noon on February 7, 2024 to receive a decision prior to February 14.

All housing applicants are required to submit a $500 Prepayment (or apply for a Prepayment waiver) at the same time as they submit their application. Prepayments will be due no later than February 14th at 12pm (noon); details on how to submit are outlined below in the "Application and Prepayment" FAQ section.

Prepayment Waiver Requests are due on February 7 at 12pm (noon), so that our office can make a decision prior to the February 14 Housing Application due date.

When submitting your application, you also agree to the terms of the Student Housing Agreement. The 2024-2025 Student Housing Agreement will be available soon on our website and can be reviewed within the Housing Application.

The 2023-2024 contract is also available on our website. Included below is information to help you understand the terms of the 2023-2024 contract. This information will be updated soon with language from the 24-25 Student Housing Agreement.

This information is only intended as an overview; you are strongly encouraged to read the full contract before agreeing to the terms.

  • Continuing students not enrolled as full-time students on or before July 1, 2023 for fall semester, or December 31, 2023 for spring semester may have their Student Housing Agreement canceled and their space reassigned.
  • Except as otherwise provided by University policy, once the Student has checked in to his or her room, the Student is liable for the applicable room rate for the remainder of the academic year following check in, regardless of whether the Student remains in the residence halls for that period of time.
  • In the event the Student is removed from the residence halls for student conduct and/or disciplinary reasons, the Student will remain fully responsible for all room and board charges and fees for the remainder of the academic year following removal.
If you currently have a housing or meal plan accommodation on file with the Student Accessibility Center or would like to request an accommodation, please contact their office as soon as possible to ensure that your records and accommodation are up-to-date and on file prior to the Reapplication Process. Specific information regarding applying to request a housing and meal plan accommodations is available here.

We will be reaching out to all student with approved accommodations to provide additional information on how your accommodation may impact the selection process. If you have any questions in the meantime, please email us at res-life@luc.edu.

Considering Living Off-Campus (Junior/Senior/Graduate Students)
You are not required to live on-campus, however, the Housing Contract is a legally binding agreement and signing the Housing Contract is similar to signing a lease.

Once you have signed the Housing Contract...
...you will not be released if you later decide to live off-campus.
...you will not be released if you are unhappy with your room assignment.
...you will not be released if you also sign a lease off-campus.

The complete terms of the Housing Contract are available on our website.
You should explore all of your housing options before making a final decision.

In order to participate in Room Selection, you must submit your Application and $500.00 Prepayment by February 14, 2024 at 12PM (noon). If you are financially unable to submit a prepayment, you may request a Prepayment Waiver (please see below).

Application/Contract
The application/contract will be available on the Residence Life Portal in LOCUS beginning on January 31, 2024 (the application will launch mid-day). Read the application and contract carefully and be sure to complete all steps.

Prepayment
The Prepayment confirms your intent to live on campus. Prepayments must be submitted through the link provided on the Residence Life Portal in LOCUS. Your Application must be submitted before the Prepayment.
Do NOT use the tuition lockbox to submit your prepayment.
Student must sign-in to access the prepayment link.
Prepayments only apply to fall housing charges, which will be reflected on July eBills.

Prepayment Waiver Request
Prepayment Waiver Requests may be submitted through the Residence Life Portal in LOCUS beginning on January 31, 2024. Your Application must be submitted before your Prepayment Waiver Request. Prepayment Waiver Requests must be submitted by February 7, to receive a decision before the February 14, Housing Application deadline.

Please note that approval of waivers is based on the Expected Family Contribution (EFC) listed on your FAFSA. Not all waivers are granted; if you submit your request by the deadline and it is denied, you may still be permitted to participate in Room Selection provided that you pay the prepayment as instructed. If you submit a prepayment and are later approved for a waiver, your prepayment will not be refunded; it will be applied as a credit to your fall housing charges on your July eBill.

Do you need 5 students to select a quint (or 4 students to select a quad)?

Yes, in order to select a quad or quint, you will need to be able to fill the space.

Baumhart quads are an exception to this as groups of less than 4 will be able to select a quad in Baumhart Hall on the Water Tower Campus.

As a reminder, both quads and quints on the Lake Shore Campus are very limited. Students hoping to be able to select either room type should have a conversation amongst their Roommate Group to determine how they will split should a quad or quint not be available.

If you're part of a Roommate Group, who should be selecting the space?

The student with the lowest lottery number (closest to 1) should be the one selecting on behalf of the group.

I submitted my housing application and/or pre-payment after the deadline, am I eligible for Room Selection?

Students who submitted their housing application and/or pre-payment late are not eligible for Room Selection and will not be able to be "pulled into" a room by a friend.

Students who didn't meet the communicated deadline will be assigned by the Department of Residence Life on a rolling basis after Room Selection concludes.

Based on availability, some Juniors and Seniors were placed on our Deferred Housing List. Once designated Junior/Senior spaces became full, students were notifed of placement on the deferred list. Additional information regarding the Deferred Housing Process was also provided at that time.

In compliance with the Residency Requirement, current First Year students are guaranteed on-campus housing for their second year. The need for/use of a Deferred Housing List for Juniors/Seniors does not alter the Residency Requirement for First and Second Year students.

Resources for Students on the Deferred Housing List
If you know that you want to live on-campus, your best course of action is to remain on the Deferred Housing List.

Should you choose to explore your off-campus options, the University has several resources to assist you. Review our off-campus housing resources for more information.

If you secure accommodations off-campus or decide that you would like to be removed from the Deferred Housing List, you may submit a Request for Release from the Housing Contract online at forms.LUC.edu/eRelease. If you submitted a prepayment, it will be refunded to the credit/debit card used for payment after your release is approved.
