Academics
The Center will integrate core competencies in disciplines such as business, law, computer science, ethics, accounting, philosophy, psychology, mathematics, health care and environmental science. Thus, a critical strength of the Center will be its multi-disciplinary approach. Loyola University Chicago researchers will bring to the Center expertise in many disciplines, including:
- Decision Analysis – Development of formal models of decision-making
- Statistics – Estimation of probabilities and risk matrices for extreme events
- Economics – Exploration of utility, trade-offs and cost/benefit analysis
- Finance – Use of derivative securities and insurance for managing risk
- Applied Ethics and Law – Legal and ethical considerations and risk assessment
- Environmental Studies - Assessment of local and global environmental threats
- Information Systems – A secure framework for accessing information
- Mathematics – Modeling under uncertainty
- All these topics are thought through four distinct programs:
The primary focus of the Center will be supporting research and education on risk management, and enable courses and programs for undergraduate, graduate and professional students. The Center will promote both descriptive and prescriptive research, the former focusing on how individuals and organizations make decisions to manage risk, the latter promoting best practices.
