Michael Davies is an English solicitor and founding partner of Siemiątkowski & Davies. He has been resident in Poland since 1991 (having been a partner at Allen & Overy until May 2005); he has also spent a number of years working in France and the Middle East. His areas of practice include energy, privatizations, acquisitions, joint ventures, finance and major projects. He sat on the Council of the Section on Energy and Natural Resources Law of the International Bar Association from 1990 to 2000. He has lectured and written extensively on investment, finance and energy matters in Poland and Central Europe, and is the author of Joint Ventures in Poland: a Legal Guide. He lectures at the University of Warsaw on aspects of financial law and practice.
He has acted as an Expert Fellow to the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) and designed and taught programs on loan agreement and joint venture negotiations, and on external debt legislation, for UNITAR in various countries in Asia (Azerbaijan, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgystan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan) and Africa (Eritrea, Ghana, and Namibia). He was the author of various sections of the UNITAR publication Debt and Financial Management - Legal Aspects. He led a training course in Indonesia on external debt legislation, and provided advice to Government officials on the drafting of a law dealing with foreign loans and grants. He also worked as a visiting instructor for many years for the International Development Law Organisation, Rome, Italy and taught an annual course on the negotiation and drafting of international loan agreements.
