Kristen Irwin is Assistant Professor of Philosophy at Loyola University. She came in 2014 after teaching at Biola University (CA). She earned her Ph.D. in philosophy from the University of California, San Diego in 2010. Prior to that, she received her B.A. in Philosophy and History from Hillsdale College (MI).

Dr. Irwin's teaching and research interests include several philosophical topics in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, including conceptions of reason and belief, the nature of faith, skepticism, philosophical theology (particularly the problem of evil), and theories of toleration.  She has published pieces in Philosophy Compass, Studia Leibnitiana, The Modern Schoolman (now Res Philosophica),  Kriterion, and New Essays on Leibniz's Theodicy (eds. Larry Jorgensen & Sam Newlands).

She is currently working on an anthology chapter on Locke's philosophical theology, a reference article on Pierre Bayle for the Internet Encyclopedia of Philosophy, a paper on Locke & Bayle's arguments for religious toleration, and a paper on the coherence of Bayle's skepticism with moral knowledge.
