Become a Host Student
The International House is looking for students who are interested in becoming Host Students. Host Students are American students that volunteer to be paired with an incoming international student in order to help them transition to the Loyola campus and living in the United States. This is most crucial during the first weeks after the arrival of the international student to Chicago, but we ask for at least a semester long commitment to the program. The Host Student will serve as a resource for questions (where to buy books, how to navigate the CTA, where are the best places to eat near campus, etc). Many of the students become close friends while others just meet a few times throughout the semester.
Beyond helping your partner with adjusting to life in Chicago, the International House hosts a number of fun events (cooking event, movie night, going to a concert/sporting event, holiday/seasonal theme activities, etc) where all the International House students and Host Students can get together and hang out. The number of times you meet with your student is up to you but we ask that Host Students reach out to their Chicago Center partners at least once a month to check in on how their partner student is doing.
