Host Student Program
Host Student Program: An opportunity for making American friends!
One of the best ways for an international student to practice their English and become more involved on campus is to become friends with Loyola students during their time in Chicago; the Chicago Center aims to help you achieve this through the Host Student Program!
Host students are American students that are paired with an incoming international student in order to help with the transition to the Loyola campus and the United States. In addition to helping international students with logistical questions at the beginning of the experience, host students are encouraged to meet with their partner in the program at least 2 times per month. The International House staff also coordinates monthly events for host students and their partners such as cooking nights, movie nights and holiday/seasonal outings. Keenan Plate, Class of 2015:
"When I signed up to be a host student for the Chicago Center program at Loyola, I had no idea what I was getting myself into. I can honestly say it turned out to be one of the best decisions I made that year. I gained some life-long friends from across the globe that I know I will see again one day. Being a host student was one of the highlights of my semester and I can't wait to sign up again!"
Alexander Stoll, Class of 2014:
"The Host Student Program has instilled within me lessons of friendship, community, culture and understanding through a means unlike any other found on campus. My involvement has reshaped the way I view and treat others, and challenges me to continually deepen my perspective of the world around us."
