Vicki’s research interests are in the areas of emergency nursing.  As a nurse practitioner in the Emergency Department (ED), she has been involved in research projects ranging from family presence during resuscitation, management of early pregnancy loss, HIV testing, treatment of STDs, and the management of asthma in the ED/pre-hospital settings.

Vicki teaches medical-surgical nursing in the undergraduate program, and also teaches in the on-line RN-to-BSN program.  She assists with the graduate program’s nurse practitioner physical assessment evaluations.  She has been a preceptor in the ED for acute care and family nurse practitioner students.  She also teaches multiple emergency nursing courses including Trauma Nursing Core Course, Course in Advanced Trauma Nursing, Trauma Nurse Specialist Course, Basic Trauma Life Support Course, Emergency Nurse Pediatric Course, Emergency Communications Registered Nurse Course and School Nurse Emergency Course.  She also actively speaks at various emergency nursing conferences.

Vicki also works part-time as an Emergency Nurse Practitioner at Loyola University Medical Center and sits on the Nursing Education Committee.  She is on the School of Nursing Alumni Board and is the President of the Illinois Emergency Nurses Association (IENA). She has volunteered at area health/safety fairs and has spoken to local middle and high school students and parents about current trends in recreational drug use.  She currently is working with IENA and local law enforcement on presenting a distracted driving program for teens.
