McNair Scholars Program


Students who meet the following criteria should apply to Loyola’s McNair Program:

  • Qualify as either a first-generation college student who also has a low-income level established by the US Department of Education; or a member of a group that is underrepresented in graduate education (including African American, Native American, and Latino)
  • 3.0 minimum cumulative GPA
  • Completion of at least 60 credit hours
  • US Citizenship or permanent US Residency
  • Intend to pursue a Ph.D. after graduation

To maintain eligibility in the program, participants must:

  • Maintain a 3.0 GPA
  • Fully participate in all program events and complete all assignments
  • Comply with all federal, state and local laws and all University regulations and procedures when participating in program activities
  • Comply with all McNair Scholars Program requirements, as detailed in the Student Commitment Agreement
  • Establish and maintain an appropriate meeting schedule with the faculty mentor, especially during the Summer Research Internship

**Please Note** The McNair Scholars Program is not designed to prepare students for professional programs such as law, medicine, dentistry, or management.
