Math and Sustainability

Humanity continually faces the challenge of how to balance human needs against the world's resources while operating within the constraints imposed by the laws of nature. Mathematics and statistics helps us better understand these complex issues and is used to find creative solutions for a sustainable way of life. In the coming decades, society and individuals will need to make many difficult choices; mathematics and statistics provides us with tools to make informed decisions.

Here we provide a sampling of the ways mathematics is interfacing with the science of sustainability.
