MATH 390: Undergraduate Seminar
Junior standing or permission of (Assistant) Chair.
The ability to prepare and deliver presentations in mathematics is essential for many careers accessible to majors, as well for study at a higher level. The undergraduate seminar will cultivate students' presentation skills through: participation in and critical discussion of brief lectures by others on familiar and unfamiliar topics; preparation and presentation of two brief lectures by the student (one on a familiar topic and one on an unfamiliar one); and preparation of a short manuscript, or "extended abstract," summarizing the second presentation.
Outcome: Students will gain the ability to present material in mathematics and its applications to a general audience.
