MATH 390: Undergraduate Seminar

Course Details
Credit Hours: 1
Prerequisites: Senior standing, including completion of MATH/STAT 304 or MATH 313 or MATH 351
Description:  The ability to prepare and deliver presentations in mathematics is essential for many careers accessible to majors, as well for study at a higher level. The undergraduate seminar will cultivate students' presentation skills through: participation in and critical discussion of brief lectures by others on familiar and unfamiliar topics; preparation and presentation of two brief lectures by the student (one on a familiar topic and one on an unfamiliar one); and preparation of a short manuscript, or "extended abstract," summarizing the second presentation. Students will gain the ability to present material in mathematics and its applications to a general audience.
