Why Publish Your Research?
Submitting your work for publication consideration carries many benefits. It encourages you to revise your paper so that it is accessible to a wide audience, which is an important skill. You get feedback from peer reviewers, which can help you improve your writing. And having a publication on your resume or c.v. is good whether or not you plan to go to graduate school.
Generally, you cannot publish the same paper in more than one journal, so be sure to consult with your mentor to decide which journal would be best for your work.
I hope to offer a workshop during the year about publishing, and feel free to contact me with any questions you have at awarne@luc.edu.
Places to Publish
All Disciplines
This online, peer-reviewed journal publishes articles and reviews from undergraduate and graduate students from all academic fields. According to its website, the journal “seeks papers that are novel, integrative, and written in a way that is accessible to a wide audience.”
Students generally submit their own papers based on their research. Papers can be co-authored with a professor, such as your research mentor, but the student must be listed as First Author. There is no cost for submissions, but there is a $150 fee if the paper is selected for publication. If you are a LUROP Fellow, your research budget can be used to pay for this.
The next deadline for submissions is Oct. 31. If you miss that deadline, you can submit papers for future issues later.
For more information, or to submit your papers, visit the journal’s website.
