The University Libraries system comprises three libraries, a library storage facility and two archives. Construction of the new Information Commons, providing state-of-the-art study and research space, is underway. The libraries hold over 1.1 million volumes and 30,000 print and online journal subscriptions, and provide online access to a rich array of electronic resources.
Information Commons
The new Information Commons, located on the shoreline at the Lake Shore Campus, will focus primarily on the needs of undergraduate students by serving as student-focused study and instructional space. Construction of the Information Commons is the first phase of a larger library facilities master plan which also includes substantial renovation of the Cudahy and Lewis Library spaces.
The new building will link to Cudahy Library by a café, and afford direct views of Lake Michigan and the planned Lake Shore Campus quadrangle. Among its state-of-the-art features, the building will house 200 computer workstations, six classrooms, wireless Internet access, 35 group-study rooms and a Super Help Desk to answer students' research and technology questions.
