Loyola Experience LC
New for 2012-2013, the Transfer Loyola Experience Learning Community aims to connect incoming transfer students with each other and with the faculty, staff, peer mentors, and other resources that will assist them in transitioning to and succeeding at Loyola. Students will build community based on their shared experience as transfer students and will support each other as they become and integrated member of the Loyola student body. Students will explore what it means to be a student at Loyola, gain a better understanding of the University's values, and make sense of the Loyola experience as it is similar to and different from previous college experiences.
In 2012-2013, the Transfer Loyola Experience LC will be home to approximately 90 incoming transfer students. All students will live together in Fairfield Hall on the Lake Shore Campus and will take one CORE class together. The courses offered for the Transfer Loyola Experience LC will each explore a specific jesuit value to give students a greater understanding of the values Loyola holds as a University. For examples, courses may be offered that explore issues of social justice, offer greater understanding of world religions, or provide students experiences in civic engagement.
Activities and Programs
The Transfer Loyola Experience will explore campus and the city of Chicago together. Students will enjoy programs and events with their faculty across campus campus and around the city of Chicago. They will attend campus events and visit museums, cultural events, and other activities across the city. Students will also have increased programs to support their academic and social success here on campus.
Curricular Requirements
Each student will take one 3 credit hour CORE class together with the Community in the Fall Semester. The courses offered in the community will be focused on one of our Jesuit Values and will provide students a greater understanding of how our Jesuit values shape the Loyola Community. Specific course offerings will be posted soon.
