Biography:
Douglas Smith is a partner at Kirkland & Ellis LLP where he litigates cases across the country at both the trial and appellate level. His research interests include constitutional law and constitutional history, civil procedure, mass torts, corporate and securities law. Professor Smith has published numerous scholarly articles and essays, including recent articles appearing in the Northwestern University Law Review, the University of Illinois Law Review, and the Harvard Journal of Law & Public Policy. He is also a frequent commentator on legal issues and has published several op-ed pieces on various legal topics. Before joining Kirkland & Ellis LLP, Professor Smith clerked for the Honorable David B. Sentelle of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit. He holds a J.D. from Northwestern University School of Law; an M.B.A. from the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business; and a B.S. and B.A. from the State University of New York at Buffalo. He is an adjunct scholar at the American Enterprise Institute and was previously an Associate Professor of Law at George Mason University School of Law.
