In addition to teaching Advocacy at Loyola, Beth Devane also served as the Director of Loyola's Writing Workshop for first-year law students. While a student at Loyola, she participated in several law-school advocacy programs: she was a member of the First Place team in the All Illinois (ISBA) Moot Court Competition, winning the Best Oralist award; she was a member of Loyola's National Moot Court team; and, she received the American Jurisprudence Award in Appellate Advocacy. After graduating, Professor Devane practiced commercial litigation with DLA Piper, while also serving as a judge for Loyola's Intra-School Moot Court Competitions and a coach for Loyola's ISBA Moot Court teams. Most recently, she worked in the enforcement division of the United States Securities and Exchange Commission's Midwest Regional Office, investigating and litigating financial fraud cases.
