Attorney Sarah Toney is the Owner of the Toney Law Firm, LLC. She has concentrated in the areas of Criminal and DUI Defense since she was admitted to the bar. In addition, she has been an Adjunct Professor at Loyola University of Chicago School of Law for 10 years where she currently teaches Legal Writing and has taught an Advanced Writing for Criminal Law class. She attended Miami University where she received a B.S. in Education and Loyola University Chicago School of Law where she received her J.D.
Ms. Toney was named Young Lawyer of the Year in 2014 by the Illinois State Bar Association. She is rated AV Preeminent by Martindale-Hubbell. She was named an Illinois Super Lawyer in 2016 & 2015, and she has previously been named an Illinois Super Lawyers Rising Star in 2010-2014. She is also a member of the National Trial Lawyers Top 100 Lawyers.
She served as Chair of the Traffic Laws and Courts Section Council for ISBA in 2013, which she has been appointed to since 2008. She was elected to the Assembly in 2013 and confirmed as a member of the ISBA LAWPAC in 2012. She is currently Vice Chair of the Law Office Management & Economics Committee. She has been Editor of the Traffic Laws and Courts Newsletter for the past eight years. She currently also serves on the Marketing and Communications Committee.
Ms. Toney has been invited to speak by the Chicago Bar Association, the Illinois Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers and the Illinois State Bar Association at various seminars. She is also on the Board of Directors for the national DUI Defense Lawyers Association. She sits on the Member Events Committee and the Health Benefits and Wellness Committee of the Union League Club. She previously served on the Athletic Committee.
Ms. Toney has represented former Chief Judge of Lake County David Hall, successfully arguing his appeal and serving as one of his trial counsel in his criminal charges. She is admitted to practice in the United States Supreme Court, the United States District Court, Northern District of Illinois, General Federal Bar, United States District Court, Central District of Illinois and the United States Court of Appeals, Seventh Circuit.
She is a charter member and on the Board of Directors for the DUI Defense Lawyers Association and is a member of the National College for DUI Defense, where she was appointed to the Diversity Committee by the Dean. She is also a member Illinois State Bar Association, and the Women’s Criminal Defense Bar Association. She joined the American Chemical Society as a lawyer member in order to further her defense of clients and has completed all 3 of the Axion Labs Forensic classes offered for lawyers.
