Paul J. Voss works for the Office of Research Services in Loyola’s Health Sciences Division, drafting and negotiating agreements for the University’s participation in industry-sponsored clinical trials with drug and device companies. Prior to that, he was a member of a national health law practice, representing and advising primarily physicians and medical staffs on a variety of legal matters including exclusive hospital contract, employment, group practice, joint venture, practice sale, licensure and program participation, medical staff bylaw and staff privilege/credentialing, antitrust and fraud and abuse issues. He has also represented hospitals, state and national professional societies, acted as co-counsel on healthcare corporate and antitrust litigation and worked extensively on a special prosecutor’s investigation of alleged official misconduct. Mr. Voss has also written materials on hospital contracts and alternative practice models for the American college of Radiology. He is the author of a chapter on hospital-medical staff issues in the 2013 edition of the Jones & Bartlett textbook, Problems in Health Care Law, Challenges for the 21st Century and co-authored a chapter on the same topic with John Blum and Shawn Mathis for the 2016 Oxford Handbook of U.S. Health Law. He and a former LLM student from the Program have prepared the “pocket part” updates for the last 3 editions of the “Physicians and Hospitals” chapter of The Law of Medical Practice in Illinois published by West Publishing. In addition to his current courses with the law school, he has taught Healthcare Contracts in the Program, teaches a health law course in Loyola’s Healthcare Management MBA Program and currently teaches a health law and an ethics course in the graduate programs of the School of Public Health at the University of Illinois-Chicago.
