Civitas ChildLaw Center
Fellowships and Internships
The ChildLaw Fellows Program
Each year, approximately seven to ten ChildLaw Fellows are selected on the basis of their academic ability, leadership potential and commitment to careers as child advocates. To support and encourage this career choice, Fellows are awarded tuition and internship support, It is the hope and expectation of the Civitas ChildLaw Center that Fellows will become leaders in the field of child advocacy. Although the program is in its early years of development, already nearly 40 ChildLaw Fellows are working on behalf of children's interests throughout the United States. Some of these Fellows provide direct representation to child clients and others work in policy development, research and judicial administration that focus on children.

Internships
Internships enable students to integrate their formal legal training into a setting where they learn first-hand the practical aspects of working with and/or on behalf of children. They are also an excellent opportunity for networking and for helping students define their career objectives. Internships can be done over the summer or at any time during a student's time at Loyola. Depending on the internship site, students may volunteer, receive externship course credit or receive compensation from the host program. The Civitas ChildLaw Center maintains an extensive list of national and local internship sites. In addition, the Career Resources Office is an excellent source of information. Examples of sites where Loyola students have completed internships include:
- ABA Center for Children of the Law, Washington, D.C.
- Office of Juvenile Justice & Delinquency Prevention, Washington, D.C.
- Youth Law Center, San Francisco, CA
- Office of the Public Guardian, Chicago
- ABA Child Custody Project, Chicago
- Office of the Attorney General, Seattle, WA
- Rocky Mountain Children's Center, Denver, CO
