Upcoming Public Interest Events

       Upcoming trainings TBD

CLAIM Family Law Clinic volunteers conduct intake interviews and give advice on family law matters for mothers in Cook County Jail. Volunteers work in cooperation with CLAIM staff attorneys. CLAIM provides a guideline for interview questions, information about making attorney visits at the jail, and a list of referrals for programs that help women build stronger cases.

Lawyers and 711 License eligible students interested in working with incarcerated mothers should attend. Lawyers can earn 4.5 MCLE credits (including .75 Professional Responsibility hours).

The time commitment to be a CLAIM volunteer is 4-5 hours per month.
This program is co-sponsored by the Women's Law Society.

Attendees will hear from panelists who worked at public interest organizations during law school, have the opportunity to have their resume critiqued, and meet in small group mentoring sessions with seasoned pro bono and public interest attorneys.

The Pro Bono & Community Service Fair is a great opportunity for Chicago lawyers and law students to make connections with a broad cross-section of Chicago's pro bono and community service programs, learn about volunteer opportunities, and network with likeminded individuals.

RSVP to yls@chicagobar.org if you plan to attend!

Public interest employers from the Chicago area and beyond come together to network with students. This is not a job fair; rather, it is a "meet and greet" or networking affair. Employers range from not-for-profits to government entities.

The Midwest Public Interest Law Career Conference (MPILCC) enables employers from public interest and government organizations and J.D. students to gather for a day of interviews and informal networking.  Each year, the MPILCC Conference attracts nearly 50 employers for on-site interviews, Table Talk (an informal networking session), or resume solicitation. From an average eleven hundred student registrants, about 250 students representing about 40 law schools attend the conference. The conference is free to employers and students.

       February 18, 2010

Through the student fundraising efforts of the Public Interest Law Society (PILS) at the annual Public Service Auction, Loyola offers grants to support students who wish to do public interest legal work during the summer months. The Auction is the biggest student event of the year, raising $20,000 last year alone. Notably, the PILS Auction is a unique event for Loyola because it is entirely student run and student organized.

Each April, all law students who have worked in Loyola's clinics, provided pro bono services at an agency that serves the poor, or otherwise volunteered their time during the school year are honored at a luncheon.
