Ministry
Inspired by its Jesuit Catholic heritage, Loyola is welcoming to students and faculty from all faiths, religions, cultures and traditions. As such, the Ministry function in the law school offers information, advice and counseling to all students. It also sponsors a wide variety of activities designed to make the law school experience supportive of family and other relationships and to help law students balance their personal and professional lives.
Led by the law school's chaplain, Rev. T. Jerome Overbeck, S.J., Ministry offers such programs as:
- "Staying Best Friends," a discussion group for couples about the stresses of legal education on relationships
- Law Students with Kids, a discussion group for students who are parents
- Hunger Week, an annual week-long series of activities to highlight the problems of hunger in society
The university's Office of Mission and Ministry service provides a range of activities and opportunities in which law students are able to participate. Catholic Mass is available at Loyola's Water Tower Campus and at the nearby Holy Name Cathedral.
The law school offers a chapter of the Catholic Lawyers Guild of Chicago. Orthodox Christian students may participate in the university's Christian Orthodox Fellowship or in the Christian Legal Society. For Jewish students, the law school has an active chapter of the Decalogue Society, and the university offers the Hillel organization.
Loyola supports a Muslim Law Students Association, and a Baitusalaam Mosque on campus. Hindu students may become involved in the Hindu Student Organization.
