About

Professor Sanchez' teaching and research interests include comparative politics, international relations, Latin American politics, and democratization. He has conducted field research in Cuba, the Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Guatemala, Panama, and Peru. He is the author of Panama Lost? U.S. Hegemony, Democracy, and the Canal (University Press of Florida, 2007), selected by Choice as an outstanding academic title in 2008. Other scholarly publications include articles in International PoliticsThe Latin AmericanistPS: Political Science & PoliticsJournal of Developing AreasAnnals of Tourism ResearchHarvard Journal of Hispanic PolicyInternational Journal on World PeaceJournal of the Third World SpectrumThe Journal of Conflict StudiesThe Air Force Law ReviewThe Americas, and Peace Review, as well as numerous chapters in edited volumes. Professor Sanchez spent the 1997-98 Academic Year as a Senior Fulbright Scholar at the University of Panama. He has also taught at the U.S. Air Force Academy, Virginia Tech, the John Felice Rome Center, and on the University of Virginia's Semester at Sea program. Professor Sanchez is currently working on a new book, Priest under Fire: Padre David Rodriguez and El Salvador's Revolutionary Movement, about a Catholic priest who joined the revolutionary movement and, after the civil war, was elected to the country's national legislature.
