Workshops

The workshops offered by Learning Assistance Services (LAS) help students become successful, active learners. Topics include: time management, note taking, test preparation techniques and effective reading strategies.

The 50-minute workshops are offered, free of charge, to all Loyola students. Students should bring pens and paper, as well as any other materials specified in the workshop descriptions below.


Workshops for Spring 2008

Getting off to a Good Start this Semester
Learn strategies to improve your study skills before, during, and after class to get the most from your courses this semester.

  • Workshop #1: Tuesday, January 22, 2:30 p.m., Dumbach Hall, Room 236

Workshop on Time Management
Effective time management is critical to success in college. Come and learn ways to schedule time for regular study, to plan for long-term assignments, and to make time for the many opportunities available at Loyola. Bring your class syllabi and weekly planner.

  • Workshop #2: Tuesday, January 29, 2:30 p.m., Dumbach Hall, Room 236

Studying Smarter in the Sciences
Learn effective strategies to use in your science lectures and labs, such as interpreting pictures, note-taking, and using graphic organizers.

  • Workshop #3: Tuesday, February 5, 2:30 p.m., Dumbach Hall, Room 236

Workshop on Test Taking: "How to 'A'ce your Next Exam"
Learn effective ways to prepare for and take college exams.  Students will learn the difference between preparation and review, how to develop a 5-day study plan, how to study actively, and tips on how best to approach various types of exams including multiple choice, true/false, fill in the blank, and essay.

  • Workshop #4: Tuesday, February 26, 2:30 p.m., Dumbach Hall, Room 236

Writing Center Workshop on "Turning Drafts into Effective Academic Papers"
Join Sandra Urban, Assistant Director of the Writing Center, for an insightful workshop on effective writing strategies.  Students will learn ways to transform their rough drafts into solid examples of college level work.

  • Workshop #5: Thursday, March 13, 4:00 p.m., Crown Center, Room 434

Learning Assistance Workshop - "Getting Back on Track this Semester"
Learn ways to turn this semester around in time to get better grades.  Topics will include: time management strategies, active learning, available resources and assessment of curret status and what you need to do to finish out this semester as successfully as possible.

  • Workshop #6: Tuesday, March 18th, 2:30 p.m., Dunbach Hall 236
