Spring 2013 ITS Tech Conference Schedule
The Information Technology Services (ITS) Tech Conference is a semi-annual event dedicated to the learning, networking, and sharing content and ideas around information technologies, resources, and services at Loyola University Chicago and beyond. Participants can select from multiple sessions throughout the day to learn about technology, share information with others, and make new connections. Students, faculty, and staff are invited to learn, network, and share. Typically held in the early fall and late spring the ITS tech conference brings people together to take advantage of technology and services. A2: Introduction to Sakai - The New Learning Management System This session will provide information and updates on the move from Blackboard to Sakai this summer. Come and hear about upcoming training opportunities and an overview of the basic features of the Sakai learning management system. |

B1: Advanced Microsoft Tools for Personal Productivity Interested in additional details and functionality coming with Loyola's new email system? In this session we will cover some of the advanced features that will be available in May of 2013. We will delve into improvements in the email client, what is IM and Presence, collaboration tools, ease of access, changes to Voice Mail and more. B2: Building a Course with Sakai This session will guide instructors through setting up a course site in Sakai. It will focus on how to manage the most commonly used Sakai tools: Site Info, Syllabus, Announcements, Resources, Assignments, and Lesson Builder. B3: Stacks of Apps to Online Access: Moving Applications Online and on Screen Recently the Division of Student Development has worked with ITS to convert several of their applications for various student activities and honors from paper-based to online, also introducing features that allow administrators to process the data online. This presentation will discuss the process of developing these applications, as well as the impact the applications have had on the coordination of these programs. |

C3: Digital Media Tools and Tricks Digital Media Services provides service to numerous on-campus multimedia computer labs, but were you aware of the robust features of the Digital Media Labs? Explore all the facets these service locations provide including poster printing, advanced software applications and equipment loan. Join us and discover some of our hidden tips and tricks! |

D1: Using Sakai to Build a Community Sakai project sites are designed to facilitate collaboration and are similar in function to Blackboard communities. Participants will learn how to create a project site, determine the tools to include within the site, select appropriate access privileges, and add collaborators to the site. D2: Mobile BI (LUC Road Map to Mobile Business Intelligence) Are you someone who loves doing everything on the go? Do you enjoy banking or shopping on the go? Then this session might be for you. Come learn about how we are taking our reports mobile! We will talk to you about what it means to have a mobile reporting environment, how it's different, what our challenges are and what our strategy is. We will be discussing and demonstrating some mobile reports by one of our favorite clients - Advancement. D3: Information Security Awareness: Keeping Your Identity Secure In this 2 part presentation you will learn how to identify and protect personal and sensitive information and how to avoid becoming the victim of common attempts to steal your identity. In the first part of the presentation, we'll touch briefly on PII; what it is, why it's important, and how Loyola goes about protecting it. One of the University Data Stewards will talk about what goes on in their department during a PII review. In part two we’ll deconstruct the phishing email giving you tips and hints to determine if a suspicious request is legitimate and how to react and report. |
