Email at Loyola

Microsoft Exchange is Loyola’s new platform for email, calendars, and other collaboration tools. Loyola upgraded from GroupWise to Exchange in May 2013. Information about the migration is available on the project web site.

Through Exchange, faculty and staff have on-campus access to Outlook 2013 and Lync 2013 for email, calendars, messaging, and conferencing. These programs are installed at the desktop for Loyola-imaged machines. Students have access to a suite of communication tools through Office 365, delivered through the cloud (i.e., the internet).

Access to the web client for students, faculty, and staff is available at http://outlook.luc.edu.

Microsoft Exchange is supported by Information Technology Services.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT EMAIL

Account Capacity

Email accounts for faculty and staff have a 10 GB capacity. Student and alumni accounts have a 25 GB limit.

Email Retention

With the upgrade to Microsoft Exchange in May 2013, and the expanded account limits, Loyola has discontinued the auto-archiving procedures that were in place with GroupWise. Messages and other items will remain in your mailbox until you delete them or until the account is deactivated.

Recovery

All Exchange servers are backed up on a daily basis and saved for three days. The backups are for disaster recovery purposes.
