Background Checks

Background checks are required by Loyola University Chicago. Human Resources will be responsible for conducting the background check for new staff hires, and in some instances volunteers.  Additional verifications may be required by individual schools or business units based on the nature of the position.

  • Loyola uses an outside firm to conduct background investigation checks.
  • Both criminal and civil background checks will be conducted on all new employees, regardless of position. 
  • Depending on the type of position, other types of background checks can be required, including but not limited to degree verification and financial credit check. For those working with minors, additional background information may be mandatory, including sex offender registry, compliance with DCFS or other state or federal protocols. 
  • Background checks can be requested on a periodic basis for some positions as required.
