2010 Faculty and Staff Opinion Survey
- Why is Loyola University Chicago conducting a survey of its faculty and staff?
Gathering faculty and staff perspectives on their work experiences and the University’s functioning helps administration understand what currently works and what needs to be improved. Improvement occurs when we openly solicit candid and confidential feedback from all critical stakeholders and act upon this feedback. Disciplined follow-up on the survey findings will help us continue to drive Loyola University Chicago to future success.
- What areas will the survey focus on?
The survey will cover areas such as development, leadership, mission, benefits, and teamwork.
- How much time will it take to complete the survey? How long is the survey and what is the format?
The survey should take approximately 20 minutes to complete. If you are unable to complete the survey after you begin, you will have the option to click on “finish later” and your information will be saved so you can return at a later time to complete it.
The survey consists of multiple-choice questions and one open-ended question which allows respondents to write additional comments.
- Why is my participation important?
First, as a faculty or staff member of Loyola University Chicago, your voice matters. Second, higher response rates give a more accurate picture of the University and its individual departments. This is a significant opportunity for you to share your ideas, opinions, and solutions for the University by participating in both the survey and the action planning that will follow.

- Are my survey responses confidential?
Yes, this survey is completely confidential. The purpose of the survey is to get honest feedback. Towers Perrin-ISR’s confidentiality policy will not allow results to be reported in any way that would allow individual respondents to be identified.
- What will happen to my written comments?
Your written comments will be typed and reported anonymously. The administration will not be able to respond to every comment or suggestion, but we guarantee that they will be carefully reviewed and taken into consideration.
- How do I take the survey?
All eligible faculty and staff members will be invited to take the survey using Towers Perrin-ISR’s Web site. The survey will be available beginning Monday, September 10, through Sunday, September 30.

You may take the survey at any time, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, from work or from home. Internet access and Microsoft Internet Explorer or Netscape 5.0 or higher are required. Multiple associates in an office can use the same workstation, as long as each person properly logs on and off the computer. - What if I don't have access to a computer?
For individuals who do not have access to a computer, a hard copy survey will be provided. Please contact your survey coordinator, Jorene Richards, manager of training and development, at 773-508-3145 or jrich1@luc.edu for information on obtaining a paper survey.
- Once all the results are received, what's next?
We are committed to gathering feedback, identifying priority areas of action, sharing the findings with you, and developing follow-up plans to address them. Results of the survey are expected in late October or early November. Action plans will be developed and shared at a later date to provide time for assessing and planning.
- How do I find out more?
Feel free to contact Jorene Richards, Manager of Training & Development department at X83145 for concerns and questions on the survey.
- Why is the survey being administered in 2010 when it is a bi-annual survey and should have ideally been administered in 2009?
The recent economic downturn had the University adopting a conservative approach towards spending. The top management decided to wait and watch for the enrollment numbers. Fortunately, Loyola University Chicago met it's enrollment goals for the year. The survey is now being administered as part of continuous improvement process to drive Loyola University Chicago to future success.
- Why did I not get an invitation to participate in the 2007 survey?
The survey invite has been sent to all full-time and part-time staff and faculty so you would not have received an invite if you are a student worker or not a full-time or part-time staff or faculty.
If you are a full-time or a part-time staff or faculty, please make sure to check your spam inbox. Make sure your spam blocker has been set up in a way to avoid the invitation going to the spam inbox. You can call IT helpdesk at 44444 to get help with setting up your computer settings. - I am a new employee, my start date was yesterday, will I still get to participate?
HRIS has submitted the employee data file to Towers Perrin for survey administration. This employee data file has all the names of full-time and part-time staff and faculty as on December 18th 2009. If you are a new employee with a start date of December 19th or later, you will only be able to participate in the next survey.
