McNair Post-Baccalaureate Program

The Loyola University Chicago McNair Program provides academic support, research opportunities, and involvement in scholarly activities to qualifying students who have the desire and potential to earn an advanced degree. Program participants are either first generation college students or are members of a group underrepresented in graduate education. Loyola's McNair Scholars Program selects fourteen students each year and works closely with them to ensure their successful completion of the baccalaureate degree and application and admission to graduate school.

McNair Scholars can take advantage of the following activities and services:

Academic, career and personal guidance support through undergraduate degree completion
Faculty mentoring to learn the fundamentals of research professional development
Informational seminars on a variety of graduate school-related topics
Participation in a summer research internship
GRE preparation fee waivers
Assistance in applying for admission to graduate schools
Assistance in applying for fellowships, grants and other financial support for graduate school
Paid travel expenses to present research at a professional conference
Paid travel expenses for graduate school visits
Summer research stipend of $2,800

Eligibility
Eligibility for the McNair Scholars Program includes:

At least 60 credit hours completed (senior status students must have one year remaining at LUC)
3.0/4.0 or above cumulative GPA
A mentor commitment from an Loyola faculty member
Status as a first-generation college student with income eligibility and/or a member of a group underrepresented in graduate education US citizenship or residency
A sincere desire to earn a doctoral degree McNair applicants must submit all of the following:
A completed and signed application form
A Statement of Purpose
Current official transcripts
Two letters of recommendation from professors in your major field of study
Parents' and/or student's signed Federal Income Tax Return
