Enroll in the STEP: Biodiesel Course

There's still time to resister for the Solutions to Environmental Problems (STEP): Biodiesel course! Students in this class support the University Sustainability Initiative by converting waste vegetable oil from Loyola's cafeterias into low-emissions biodiesel fuel. The interdisciplinary course also focuses on the scientific, social, political, and economic dimensions of alternative fuel by integrating lectures, biodiesel production, and team project components. Visit the STEP: Biodiesel Web site for additional details.

To participate in the course, you must receive consent of the instructors. Before you can register for the course, you must provide a written description of your interest in the class and explain how it fits into your long-term goals. If you're interested in registering for STEP: Biodiesel, contact Gina Lettiere at glettie@luc.edu.

Learn About the Behavioral Concerns Team

Loyola's new Behavioral Concerns Team (BCT) consists of a group of Loyola administrators from various departments who will reach out to students whose serious behavioral problems may cause others to be concerned about them. The BCT's approach is grounded in the importance of demonstrating care and concern for students' health and well-being, and in preserving the safety and well-being of the University community. In the past, when students on college campuses have harmed themselves or others, it was often revealed that many people across campus had concerns about those students, but poor communication and coordination led to troubled individuals "falling through the cracks." The BCT's goal is to prevent that from happening by identifying students who are in distress early enough to guide such students to seek the resources they need in order to overcome sources of distress and to succeed at Loyola and beyond.

Students, faculty, and staff may report concerns about a peer to the BCT by calling 773.508.8300, or by completing the online incident report. For more information, visit the BCT Web site.

Take Advantage of Career Center Services

Water Tower Campus: 25 E. Pearson, Suite 605

    Wednesday, 10 a.m. - 12 p.m.

    Note a Change to Loyola's E-mail Service

Due to a significant increase in the amount of spam being sent to Loyola e-mail accounts, the University has added an appliance called MailFoundry to the current spam detection system. MailFoundry checks all incoming e-mail for spam and viruses before they reach Loyola's e-mail servers, thereby reducing the amount of unwanted messages.

GroupWise users will notice less spam routed to their junk mail folder and will receive a daily digest report in their inbox containing e-mail messages quarantined by MailFoundry on the previous day (if spam was received). Please review the daily quarantine digests for false positives, e-mail messages that are incorrectly labeled as spam. The digest will contain the following options for each e-mail message:

    • View: Allows you to view the contents of a message in quarantine
    • Release: Sends the quarantined message directly to your inbox
    • Release and Report: Sends the quarantined message to your inbox after reporting it to MailFoundry as not spam, preventing similar messages from being blocked in the future

Learn more about MailFoundry and contact Loyola's Technology Support Group with any questions at 773.508.7190 (dial 4.4444 on campus), or e-mail helpdesk@luc.edu.

    Be Aware of Graduation Fees

During the month of August, the Office of the Bursar will assess fees to students approaching graduation. The graduation fee covers the cost of the diploma and cover, program expenses, mailing fees, and other incidental expenses associated with graduation. All graduates are listed in the Commencement program and must pay the graduation fee, regardless of attendance at the ceremony. Undergraduate students are assessed the $60 fee after completing 90 credit hours. Graduate students are assessed a $75 fee per each degree application. Get more information online.

Get Microsoft Office 2007 on Loyola's Public Access Computers

The interface and file system of Office 2007 are slightly different from Office 2003. Review this user guide to help you get started. For more information, contact Information Technology Services.
