THE O’BRIEN VRBA SCHOLARSHIP TRUST

Scholarship: Awarded to students who will be college juniors, seniors, or graduate students for the 2017-2018 school year.


Amount: Awards range from $2,000-$3,000 - Renewable each year with sufficient grades and continued commu-nity service, subject to availability of scholarship funds.

Requirements:


Residency: Scholarship recipients shall reside in the states of Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Wisconsin or Michigan and shall come from rural areas of these states as defined by the US Bureau of Census (http://www.cen-sus.gov).

Religion: Additional weight given to applicants of the Catholic faith.

GPA: Minimum of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale

Full-Time: All students must be full-time.

Schools: Catholic colleges or universities, but also public/private accredited colleges or universities.

Financial: Applicants with total adjusted gross income (from all applicable parties) exceeding $100,000 will not be considered.
If applicant is claimed as a DEPENDENT, a copy of pages 1 and 2 of parents’ joint or each parent’s individual 2016 Federal Income Tax return showing the adjusted gross income AND a copy of pages 1 and 2 of the applicant’s 2016 Federal Income Tax return showing the adjusted gross income are required with the application.
If the applicant’s filing status is SINGLE and the applicant is NOT claimed as a dependent, a copy of pages 1 and 2 of the applicant’s 2016 Federal Income Tax return showing the adjusted gross income is required with the application.
If applicant’s filing status is MARRIED FILING JOINTLY, MARRIED FILING SEPARATELY, OR HEAD OF HOUSEHOLD, a copy of pages 1 and 2 of the applicant’s (or joint) 2016 Federal Income Tax return showing the adjusted gross income AND a copy of pages 1 and 2 of spouse’s (or joint) 2016 Federal Income Tax return showing the adjusted gross income are required with the application.
Civic/Community

Involvement: Evidence of civic/community involvement and leadership will be considered and evaluated as part of the application. An example of civic/community involvement would be volunteering at a non-profit organization.

The deadline for returning your application and all required documents is April 15th.

Juniors may renew once, seniors are not eligible for renewal, and graduate students may renew once.
