Discover Loyola (and Financial Aid)

At Discover Loyola, you’ll learn how to use important University resources like Loyola’s Online Connection to University Resources (LOCUS), which allows you to register for classes and track your financial assistance. You will also get your Campus Card (student I.D.), familiarize yourself with Loyola’s campuses, and meet some of your new classmates.

The Office of Student Financial Assistance (OSFA) wants to make the financial assistance portion of Discover Loyola as simple—and as thorough—as possible.  This web page is designed to provide the key items that students receive and complete during and after the Discover Loyola session:

Before Discover Loyola

About a week before each session, OSFA sends important financial assistance information to each student attending that session.  The goal of this letter is to identify a few things you can complete and check off the “to do” list before you arrive on campus in the fall. The information includes:

Financial Aid Update, which outlines where you currently are in the financial assistance process.  The Update is customized for you and may list steps you need to complete before you can receive your funds. If any additional documentation is needed, you may bring the items with you to Discover Loyola, or fax the information to us now at 773.508.3397.

Each Financial Aid Update has a customized Steps To Receiving Your Financial Assistance

Discover Loyola: Financial Aid Notes and Key Information, a document that informs you of all the financial assistance steps you must complete this summer (if you haven’t already done so). These documents address the most frequently asked questions we receive from students and parents, so please review all the information in detail.  It also is designed so that you may print it and have a page to use for notes during the Financial Assistance presentation at Discover Loyola.

During Discover Loyola

At Discover Loyola, you will attend a presentation on financial assistance and will have the opportunity to ask questions. If your parents attend Discover Loyola with you, we encourage them to sit in on the financial assistance presentation as well.

If you have individual questions you’d like to discuss with us, or if you have documents to submit during Discover Loyola , please feel free to visit the Sullivan Center for Student Services during Day 2. The Hub in the Sullivan Center serves as a one-stop for all of your student service questions, including financial aid.

If you don’t get a chance to stop by or think of additional questions after you leave, you may contact us at anytime. Call 773.508.7704, or e-mail lufinaid@luc.edu.

After Discover Loyola

You should periodically review the Requirements in LOCUS to track your financial assistance and determine if there are steps that need to be completed before the Fall term begins.

After completing registration for the Fall term, students begin to receive e-bills.  Once you (and your parents) review your e-bill, you may determine there is a need for additional loan assistance or you may want to set up a payment plan.   Additional financing options are explained in detail and can be started online.

Most students borrow funds through the Federal Stafford Loan program to help meet the costs of their education.  There are steps needed to finalize these loans, in addition to the federal application.  Review the Steps and review the tutorial provided to walk through the process.
