Here is the schedule for Family Weekend 2023. The schedule for Family Weekend 2024 has not yet been finalized, but it will look similar to the one below. The 2024 schedule will be posted here in June, 2024. Please note that Rooney Hall was formerly known as Mundelein Auditorium.   

FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 29

Family Weekend Concert | 7:30 PM | Rooney Hall, Mundelein Center 

An outstanding concert experience featuring Loyola’s Symphony Orchestra, University Chorale, University Singers, and Wind Ensemble. The event is open to the public and tickets will go on sale starting on July 1. Families will need to purchase tickets in advance by going to this website: https://luc.universitytickets.com/ . Each customer can enter the coupon code FW2023 for up to two discounted tickets. Concerts can sell out, so we recommend getting tickets at least a few weeks in advance. 

SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 30

Check-In | 8 AM - 5 PM | South Entrance, Damen Student Center 

When you arrive on campus, you can pick up your Family Weekend wristbands to gain access to events and meals for the weekend, as well as tickets for food items at Chicago on Campus. Tickets to the Second City show will be available at the Check-In area while supplies last. Staff will be available to answer questions and provide directions. 

Climbing Wall | 9 AM – Noon | Halas Recreation Center  

The Rock Wall will be open for families to climb. Staff will be available to assist climbers. Families who wish to use the climbing wall should bring comfortable clothing and closed-toe shoes. Children must be 12 years or older to participate.  

Java with the Jesuits | 10 AM – 12 PM | Ignatius House 

The Jesuit Community invites you to join them for an Open House with coffee, tea, pastries, and good conversation. 

Family Weekend Welcome | 12 - 12:30 PM | Gentile Arena

Vice President for Student Development Dr. Keith Champagne will be joined by basketball coaches Drew Valentine and Allison Guth to welcome Family Weekend guests. The band and spirit team will also perform. Seating is first come, first served. Doors will open prior to noon. Video screens are temporarily offline; we apologize for any inconvenience. Seats will be reserved at the front for guests who wish to sit closer to the ASL interpreter.

Chicago on Campus Lunch | 12:30 - 2:30 PM | Quad (rain location Damen Student Center) 

Join us for this food inspired festival and taste popular Chicago meals. At Check-In each registered Family Weekend participant will receive a card with three tickets to use to enjoy up to three menu items. See the list of menu items here. There will be a number of activities to enjoy as well. Seating will be provided in the quad but families who prefer to eat indoors may bring their plates into the Damen Student Center. Tables and chairs are generally available in the atrium (food court area), and in the hallway outside the Sr. Jean MPR on the second floor.  

Self-Guided Campus Tours | 2 - 4 PM 

Families can visit some of our favorite places on the Lake Shore Campus through an "open house" approach. We have identified a number of wonderful places to recommend, which are listed on the Self-Guided Tour page here: https://www.luc.edu/familyweekend/selfguidedtour/

Loyola Project Documentary | 2 PM & 4 PM Showings | Damen Cinema 

In 1963, at the height of the civil rights movement, the Loyola Chicago Ramblers broke racial barriers on their way to a national championship. Now, nearly 60 years later, this legendary team is reexamined by Loyola basketball player and co-captain, Lucas Williamson. Woven together with archival footage and modern day interviews, this captivating story is surprisingly relevant to today's continued struggle for equality. The documentary will be shown once at 2 PM and again at 4 PM. 

Men’s Soccer vs. VCU * | 3 PM | Loyola Soccer Park 

Cheer on the men’s soccer team when the Ramblers take on VCU! Family Weekend attendees get free access to the game by showing their Family Weekend wristbands. Free shuttle transportation will be provided for Family Weekend guests. Throughout the game, shuttles will make a continuous loop between the Damen statue (by the main parking garage) and Loyola Soccer Park. For fans who wish to travel on their own, Loyola Soccer Park is located a mile west of campus at 6336 N. Hoyne Avenue. Free parking is available.

Taizé Synod Prayer | 6 PM | Madonna della Strada Chapel 

Loyola joins Catholic communities around the world and this prayer in the style of the Taizé Community is a sign of communion with those gathered in Rome for the Synod. 

Second City Improv Comedy | 7:30 PM | Rooney Hall, Mundelein Center  

This comedy show is a treasured Chicago attraction that is being brought to campus for Family Weekend. The show is designed for teen / adult audiences. When families check in on Saturday, they can ask for tickets to the Second City show (while supplies last). We ask that families only request tickets if they are committed to attending, and that they return tickets to the Check-In area for someone else to use if they later decide not to attend the show.  

Family Movie | 8 PM | Damen Cinema 

The Department of Programming will host a family-friendly movie showing with popcorn in our cinema. The movie will be Thor: Ragnarok. 

SUNDAY, OCTOBER 1

Sunday Mass (Liturgies) | 9 - 10 AM, 10:30 - 11:30 AM | Madonna Della Strada Chapel 

Enjoy the celebration of the Eucharist in the beautiful chapel on Lake Shore Campus. 

Climbing Wall | 9 AM – Noon | Halas Recreation Center  

The Rock Wall will be open for families to climb. Staff will be available to assist climbers. Families who wish to use the climbing wall should bring comfortable clothing and closed-toe shoes. Children must be 12 years or older to participate.  

Family Brunch | 10 AM – 1 PM | Damen Dining Hall 

Enjoy traditional brunch favorites. Family Weekend guests and LUC students who do not have unlimited meal plans can show their Family Weekend wristband at the entrance to the Damen Dining Hall, and students who have unlimited meal plans can use them. The Damen Dining Hall serves products made without nuts and has options available for other special diet restrictions and food allergies. 

Tour of the Madonna Della Strada Chapel | 12 - 1 PM | Meet at the Back of the Chapel, near the Baptismal Font

Students and their families are invited to learn about the architecture, art, and symbolism of Madonna della Strada Chapel. Our tour will also include a behind the scenes look at the chapel crypt along with a demonstration of our majestic pipe organ.  

Bookstore 

The LUC bookstore on Sheridan Road and the L-Stop store in Damen Student Center will be open on Saturday from 9 AM - 4 PM and on Sunday from 10 AM - 3 PM. Coupons will be sent to registered families in the days prior to the weekend.
