Service-Learning

Achieving Community Goals AND Co-Educating Our Students

Partnering with Loyola to support one or more of our service-learning classes offers community-based organizations (CBOs) the opportunity to draw on the talents, time, and knowledge of Loyola students and faculty.  In exchange, we ask you, as community members, to act as co-educators for our students, sharing your knowledge of complex social issues with them and mentoring them in the kind of world-changing work that you do.  We call this kind of back-and-forth relationship "reciprocity," and it is at the core of how Loyola's Center for Experiential Learning (CEL) seeks to structure our service-learning partnerships.

Service-Learning:  The Basics

As distinct from other Loyola programs (like the CEL's Academic Internships program and Loyola's community-based Federal Work-Study program) with which your organization may be involved, a service-learning partnership will be characterized by the following:
