Community Youth Support Initiative
Professional Development Workshops
This initiative aims to support the community-based organizations, youth workers, non-profit professionals and student employees working to improve the lives of urban young people, especially those from under-served communities and at-risk populations.
Community-based organizations, university students, and volunteers can take advantage of several professional and community development opportunities offered through the Community Youth Support Initiative. These opportunities include: professional development workshops for those working with youth, web-based resource sharing, and community building activities.
Through this initiative we strive to have deep, reciprocal relationships with community partners in order to build capacity and facilitate a greater impact on our community.
Professional Development Workshops
We will collaborate with community-based organizations to provide appropriate professional development workshops for student employees and supervisors. By learning the basics of youth development and other important youth worker competencies, student employees better understand the educational, developmental, and social justice aspects of their work in the community. These competency-focused workshops help students develop the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to provide high quality out-of-school time programming to young people.
