The program is open to School of Education students (i.e., sophomores, juniors, seniors, graduate students) and alumni with a minimum of Intermediate Level of proficiency in Spanish. This program is not tied to university credit.
A program fee of $1,300 covers the price of the lodging (including breakfast, dinner, and linen service), transportation around Mexico City, academic and cultural events and excursions, and student travel insurance. The cost of the flight will be in addition to the program fee.
For lodging, pairs of students will stay with families in the Colonia Condesa neighborhood. These homestays are arranged by Center for International Education (CIEL) at La Salle University (http://delasalle.ulsa.mx/sitio_ciel) and have been used with previous travelers from other institutions.
Colonia Condesa (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Colonia_Condesa) is a mostly residential middle- to upper- class art deco neighborhood in Mexico City that is characterized by a large number of young business people, artists, and students. This neighborhood features a large number of international restaurants.
An orientation session with both the Office of International Programs and Dr. Amy Heineke and Dr. Kristin Davin will be held in advance of the program to prepare students for this experience. A reflective capstone project will accompany this experience
