About

In 2009, Dr. Bridget Turner Kelly joined the Higher Education masters and doctoral programs as an Associate Professor at Loyola University Chicago and served as Program Director for three years.  Before coming to Loyola, Dr. Kelly was Associate Professor in the Student Development Administration Program at Seattle University and an Assistant Professor in The University of Vermont’s Higher Education Student Affairs graduate preparation program.

For over a decade, her teaching has introduced master and doctoral students to theoretical concepts, language, and educational practices that informed their thinking and understanding of students and faculty. Dr. Kelly’s primary teaching responsibilities for the Higher Education programs are Multiculturalism for Social Justice in Higher Education, Student Development in Higher Education, and Women in Higher Education.

Dr. Kelly’s scholarship is focused on the experiences of students of color on predominantly White campuses, women and faculty of color at research universities, and how all students experience diversity and issues of social justice on their college campus. She has authored articles in peer-refereed journals of high national reputation and also presented numerous refereed papers at national conferences. She was a 2013 Diamond Honoree for ACPA, awarded the NASPA IV-East Outstanding Contribution to Student Affairs through Teaching in 2011, recognized as an Emerging Scholar by the American College Personnel Association in 2005, and received the Peggy R. Williams Emerging Professional Award in 2004 from the Office on Women in Higher Education, a division of the American Council on Education.

Dr. Kelly asserts, "As I pursue a career as a faculty member I will continue to research underrepresented groups.  I will continue to research ways in which higher education programs can influence the social justice attitudes and interactions of students and faculty.  I will continue to teach courses where students are able to learn ideas and listen to experiences that dispel stereotypes and advance equity.  I will use the skills and knowledge that I acquire in my research and teaching to prepare students to face the increasing global society and workforce we inhabit."
