General Education Requirements


Elementary Education and
Special Education   

To be eligible for a State of Illinois Certificate, a student must complete these requirements with a grade of "C" or better.

Communication Skills
Oral Communication (Public Speaking) 3 semester hours
Written Composition (Min. of Written Composition II) 6 semester hours
Mathematics and Science
Math Elective 3 semester hours
Biological Science 3 semester hours
Physical Science 3 semester hours
One science must include a lab section.
Humanities
Three courses in at least two of the following categories:
Art, literature, philosophy, foreign language
9 semester hours
Social Science
American Government or American History 3 semester hours
Two courses in at least two of the following categories:
History, geography, economics, political science, anthropology, religious studies (not theology), psychology, sociology
6 semester hours


Secondary Education   

To be eligible for a State of Illinois Certificate, a student must complete these requirements with a grade of "C" or better.
