Teacher Preparation Programs
Master's of Education (M.Ed.)
The School of Education offers bachelor and master degree programs that include certification at the initial and advanced level. Initial certification programs include: early childhood/special education, elementary education, secondary education, special education, and school technology. Advanced certification is offered in Reading and Special Education. Several programs are offered that provide candidates with the content knowledge to add endorsements on an existing certificate.
These programs seek to provide professional preparation for competent scholarly leaders who understand theoretical and practical implications as encountered in varied curricular, instructional, and research situations. Candidates complete a variety of clinical experiences that provide excellent opportunities to apply and integrate professional skills in the rich diversity that exist in Chicago while receiving support and supervision of the School of Education program faculty.
Candidates in all programs leading to Illinois certification must meet all Illinois State requirements.

- Behavior Intervention Specialist (requires an LBSI Certificate)
- Reading Specialist (requires two years teaching experience)

- Middle School Mathematics Education (endorsement added on a valid 03 certificate)
- Science Education (endorsement added on a valid 03 or 09 certificate)
