Academic Coaching

Academic Coaching is a hybrid tutoring and mentoring combination that pairs high achieving (3.0 GPA) and professionally trained college students with at-risk students in underperforming urban high schools for regularly scheduled support.

This carefully orchestrated pairing of high school students and committed college coaches creates a unique relationship that is fueled by “near-peer” guidance. The college student offers an adolescent counsel that is often more readily accepted than that of a teacher, counselor, or parent because of the students’ close proximity in age. The two groups of “millennials” share common interests in numerous areas of pop culture, technological tools, and social awareness that contribute to the efficacy of this delivery model.
