Hate Crimes Awareness Month
Loyola University Chicago's Hate Crimes Awareness Month was originally launched as Hate Crimes Awareness Week in 2005, around the National Day of Silence to honor those who have been silenced as a result of being victims of violent discrimination. In 2008, Hate Crimes Awareness Week became a full month of events during the month of April.
Hate Crime Awareness Month extends the activities to any underrepresented population who faces violent discrimination (i.e., based on sexual orientation, ethnicity, gender, religion, disability, etc). Planning for Hate Crimes Awarness Month begins during the Spring semester. For information on how to get involved with planning, please contact Sharon Chia Claros at sclaros@luc.edu.
